Have You Noticed?
𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐝?
This morning I was reading from Ann Voskamp's 𝘎𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘴 & 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘑𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘭 about the passage of time and how sometimes we almost don't notice that our life is just a vapor.
And we're tired, and time marches on regardless of what we think about it or how we feel about.
Ann was washing dishes of all things when she found wonder - right there in the middle of the sink - in a bubble. And that's when she saw it.
She discovered how to slow a life and the torrent of time down for the glory of God. The rainbow is on the fringes of that bubble that represents our lives and it can be beautiful if we pay attention.
Here's what she says about the whole matter
"My tired heart speaks to the heart of God:
I don't really want 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 time; I just want 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 time, time to do my one life well...
In the light, the sheerness of bubble shimmers. Bands of garnet, cobalt, flowing luminous. Wonder - right there in the middle of the sink.
I see. I see through to the pattern. The way my life - vapor - is shaping. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘐 𝘢𝘭𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘥.
Time is a relentless river.
It rages on, a respector of no one.
And this is the only way to slow time down.
When you fully enter time's swift current - into the current moment -
with the weight of all your attention -
you slow the torrent of time down with the weight of 𝐲𝐨𝐮 - 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.
That's it: 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒍𝒚 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒍𝒐𝒘 𝒅𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒆𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏.
The bubble in my hand quivers, a rainbow at the fringes.
And blind eyes see: it's this for the glory of God everywhere that slows a life, and time, right down.
In this space of time and sphere, you can be attentive, aware, accepting the whole of the moment, weighing it down with 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.
𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬."
What speaks to you when you read and contemplate this?
