Advice to Entrepreneurs DIYing Their Tech
Plan for What You Need Right Now
II’ve worked with hundreds of clients over the course of 8 years and have learned that every brain is different in how they envision their ideal business, set goals, and process information. I’ve also seen commonalities between my clients who struggled with their tech and those who had big goals for how tech would play a role in their business.
(Before I continue, let’s define “tech.” When I say “tech”, I’m talking about any online tool that helps run your business operations and marketing: email funnels, websites, memberships, client onboarding, etc.)
Many of my clients were overwhelmed. They considered themselves not tech-savvy and some outright hate tech. Some have tried DIYing their tech, some don’t know where to start.
Does any of that describe you?
As someone who works with systems and automations for a living and actually enjoys it, I’ll tell you this: while some of it can be complicated and would be best left to professionals, a lot of it CAN be set up by people who consider themselves beginners.
If you are someone who wants to set up your own tech, here’s my advice to you.
Here’s an example of what I mean by “simplifying so you have something functional”:
If you’re wanting to host a webinar, you need a few basic things: a registration page, an email sequence, webinar hosting tech, and post-webinar email sequence.
If you’re beginning to lose momentum with setting all this up, you could simplify by making a shorter email sequence than you originally planned to.
It’s not ideal but at least you have something functional. You can launch your webinar now and add emails to it next time around.
The point of everything I said is to keep you in motion. I don’t want you to be (or stay) stuck. Stay focused on what you need right now and don’t try to go above and beyond. That’s one of the best ways to approach DIYing your tech and actually completing your projects!
